Stratford powerlifter wins British title

EMMA Ashfield is celebrating after claiming a title at the British Drug Free Powerlifting Association’s British Championships.

The 20-year-old from Stratford won the women’s 58.5kg junior class at the event held in Weston-super-Mare.

Ashfield lifted 77.5kg in the squat, 37.5kg in the bench press and 95kg in the deadlift.

“I’m really happy with my achievement,” said Ashfield, who has also qualified for the World Championships in Glasgow in November.

“It came as a bit of a shock as this is still my first year competing in the sport. “I’d like to thank my coach Sam and all the staff at Healthworks Fitness Studio for their support.”
