Award hopes for drama group
LIGHTHORNE Drama Group is through to the quarter-finals of a national competition after winning a heat of the All-England Theatre Festival in Nuneaton.
The South Warwickshire village beat seven other competing theatre groups to head up the AETF section.
They also came second in the 14-play overall Warwickshire One-Act Play competition, being beaten only by Total Arts Community Theatre from Tamworth who for several years have been regular British finalists.
LDG now go forward to the next round of the AETF competition on 2nd April, also at the Abbey Theatre, Nuneaton, with a chance to move forward to the regional semi-finals in Stoke-on-Trent in May.
Their entry was Lifecoach, written by Coventry playwright Nick Walker and directed by Victoria Pritchard.
The cast was Jess Daniel, Tony Cairns and Rod Chaytor.
The play was run for the first time by LDG at the Lighthorne Festival last June, having been adapted for the stage by the playwright from his own Radio Four play.
