WARWICKSHIRE Bears women recorded three wins out of four matches in the opening round of the British Wheelchair Basketball Women’s League in Sheffield.

Despite the absence of a number of players due to injury and illness, the newcomers stepped up to the challenge in the two-day competition.

On Saturday, the Bears opened with a comfortable 46-10 win against Scottish Warriors, and then battled to a 36-20 win against South West Wales Dragons.

Sunday’s first game pitted the Bears against the Wakefield Whirlwinds, who had also won their previous two games, but the Whirlwinds came through 36-16.

However, the Bears were determined to bounce back against Eastern Blue Stars, and they exactly that with a 30-14 win.

On Sunday, the Bears men’s thirds travel to Leicester to take on the Cobras.

The Bears are still looking for additional sponsors to help the club in their endeavours to provide sporting opportunities for local disabled people.
