VANDALS threw a lump of concrete through the window of St James the Great Church, in Long Marston, causing £500 worth of damage.

It happened sometime in the last week.

Reverend Ros Greenhalgh, rector of the benefice, said: “Damage was done to a leaded window; even though it was clear rather than a stained class window it will still need a specialist to repair the damage.

“Our insurance excess is £500, but in reality it will probably cost more to fix.”

She added: “Luckily vandalism and petty theft is not a common problem, but I would urge people to be vigilant in keeping an eye out for untoward goings-on so we can protect village property that is special and precious to us.”
