Appeal for witnesses in burglary of Snitterfield Arms pub
TWO men burgled the Snitterfield Arms stealing money as the owners slept in the pub’s flat. Police have launched an appeal for witnesses and information to the burglary.
Warwickshire Police were called to the burglary of a building on Bearley Road, Snitterfield, early Monday morning 26th February.
Anyone with witness information can call police at 101 and use incident number 152 of 26th February.
Police have released a CCTV image of two men they would like to speak to in connection with the burglary.
Detective Constable Steve Mobbs from Warwickshire Police said: “We are determined to trace the people responsible and are urging anybody with any information to report it to us as soon as possible. If you recognise the men in this image please contact us.”
Katie Ginder confirmed the burglary occurred at the pub she runs with her partner, Sara, between 6.50 and 7.10am Monday.
Two men walked around the pub building broke into the cellar hatch door, went into the cellar and then up into the pub.
She said: “They went straight upstairs into our flat while we were asleep and took the weekend’s takings in our office.”
Nothing was taken from inside the actual pub, including the six charity jars that were left untouched.
She added: “They weren’t interested in the bar. They literally wanted cash, and they knew where to get it from. They still got away with a hefty sum of money, and to a small business that’s huge.”
She said CCTV footage from their security system showed two hooded men dressed in dark clothing, including facial coverings. The face of one of the men could be seen in the footage, but was not recognisable to the pub owners.
She added: “It’s horrendous and it’s horrible to think someone has been into your private property while you were asleep. There’s obviously so many different outcomes that could’ve come from it, and luckily they didn’t wake us up and left us alone.”
The pub owners and their dog slept through burglary and only learnt about it a few hours later upon waking up.
She added: “You don’t expect it in a village like Snitterfield.”
The pub owners are appealing to anyone who saw two hooded males walking across their car park early Monday morning to let them know and the police. CCTV footage showed a red car driving by as the two men walked through the car park.
Katie added: “I just hope they get caught and stop doing this kind of invasion privacy.”
The burglary has caused the pub owners to examine their security system.
She said: “We’re looking at upgrading an already good CCTV and security system. It won’t hurt us to have more cameras in more areas as well.”
