Obituary: Former Stratford taxi driver Stephen Adams moved to the States after marrying Cindy, one of his customers
A STRATFORD man who moved to the US and became a firefighter, has died.
Stephen Adams, who was living in Pennsylvania, lost his long battle with Lewey Body Dementia on July 21st .
Born in Stratford in 1957 to Gwyndwr and Rosemary Adams, after leaving school Steve joined the Royal Air Force and later ran his own taxi service.
A life-changing fare in 1999 saw his future wife Cindy Levy Kline, her mum Rosemary and daughter Courtney, hire Steve as their driver while on holiday in the UK.
Steve and Cindy married in 2001 and settled down in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
His family say he loved living there and “his English accent was always a hit, especially with the ladies”.
Steve became a fire fighter shortly after moving to the States and loved his job, including middle-of-the-night callouts to emergencies.
As well as jointly owning a stall at a flea market with Cindy, he had his own business Steve's Olde English Lawns and Landscape, which he only stopped when illness forced him to retire.
Steve, who grew up with two sisters and a brother, remained close to his siblings and extended family throughout his life.
An animal lover, he was often seen walking or sitting in the garden with his favourite cat Benny and as a huge music fan, he never failed to make others laugh with his Elvis and Tom Jones impressions.
Steve is survived by his wife Cindy, stepdaughter Courtney and her husband Konstantinos.
His family said: “He was a caring, uncomplicated soul, filled with good humour and charm and will be remembered for all the joy and laughter he shared with his family and friends.
“He was unique and irreplaceable.”
Steve's funeral was held at St Peter's Church in Wellesbourne on August 9th.
