Warwickshire theatre company announces its season of shows




PLAYBOX Theatre has announced its programme of plays and workshops for the first part of the year taking place at its Dream Factory base in Warwick, with more productions to be confirmed.

Artistic director Emily Quash said: “Young people, immersed in the confusions of the world and society, will view events through a prism of memorable drama across 2024 – to inspire, to forge discussion and debate and to entertain.

“We look forward to welcoming faces old and new as we celebrate 25 years of being in the Dream Factory.”

Starry Nights, 15th to 16th February

The annual festival for young people where over 100 participants recreate moments from Playbox Theatre’s 38-year history.

El Tango, 6th February

In collaboration with Leamington Music, an evening of fast and furious tango rhythms.

The Maid’s Metamorphosis, 15th March

A play written by John Lyly and presented by the acclaimed boy players from Stratford’s KES, Edward’s Boys.

Midsummer Revels, 21st June

On Midsummer’s Night, a late-night show for the longest day of the year staged in the outdoor Phoenix Theatre with food, drink and music surround.

Three Sisters, opens 21st March

A new production of Chekhov’s play exploring the loves, dreams and hopes of the three sisters as they aspire to break away from their provincial lives.

Venus and Adonis, opens 20th April

An evening cabaret from Shakespeare’s popular, and often controversial, early poem. Staged by Shakespeare Young Company, combining food and entertainment, at ‘Club Venus’ the pursuit of love will take the floor.

Lord of the Flies, opens 6th June

A new creation based on Golding’s seminal book that takes the child survivors of a plane crash into the very heart of darkness. Without adults to guide them, the boys create a new society. A society where only the strongest survive.

The Odyssey , opens 4th July

The Young Production Company voyage home after the fall of Troy, meeting monsters, sirens, spirits of darkness and human challenges on their journey home to Ithaca. This spectacular summer production will use the full resources of the theatre.

Restoration, November

Two plays in repertoire in a mock Restoration Theatre. For the first time Playbox Theatre will stage a Restoration comedy – William Wycherley’s The Country Wife: a wild night out of fun and frolics staged in a recreation theatre of the time both on

stage and with April De Angelis’ Playhouse Creatures... Taking audiences backstage as the first actresses take to the stage in a powerful insight into this new world.
