Warwick to host gig for three guitar legends: Noel Gallagher, Johnny Marr and Graham Coxon

YOU wait for one guitar legend to roll up in Warwickshire, and three turn up at once.

Noel Gallagher, Johnny Marr and Graham Coxon are all heading to Warwick Castle in July for the finale to a four-day live music series.

Former Oasis star Gallagher will be bringing his band, the High Flying Birds, with support from

special guests Marr and The WAEVE, which features Blur’s Coxon as well as ex-Pipettes singer-songwriter Rose Elinor Dougall.

On Sunday, 21st July, Gallagher will be performing classic hits from his extensive back catalogue and international best-selling albums.

His last studio album, Council Skies, was released in June 2023 and was met with global critical acclaim, with some citing it as his strongest body of work to date.

Former Smiths man Marr needs little introduction and has been receiving waves of acclaim from his current live shows, while Coxon – described by Gallagher as "one of the most talented guitarists of his generation” – has had huge success with Blur and as a solo artist and is now touring with The WAEVE, who released their first album last year.

The duo, who will open the Warwick show, release the first track, City Lights, last month. It was written by the Coxon and Dougall and produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Foals). It also sees both members taking on singing duties, as well as keyboards, guitar, bass guitar, drums and saxophone.

Marr, who formed the Smiths in 1982, went on to become a member of bands including the Pretenders, The The, Electronic, Modest Mouse and The Cribs, and also collaborated with stars including Pet Shop Boys, Bryan Ferry, Talking Heads and Hans Zimmer.

In 2013, he released the solo album, The Messenger, and has since released four more albums, most recently 2022’s Fever Dreams Pts 1-4.

An official spokesperson for RG Live said today: “We can't wait to host three of the UK's true guitar icons. Unlike other festival sites, Warwick Castle Live benefits from the infrastructure of it being a working tourist attraction.

“There will be all the classic festival retailers including much-loved street food vendors and the all-important watering holes to choose from. The beauty of this event setup means you won’t be tripping over muddy tents!

“The location offers hotel accommodation on site and surrounding areas and those all-important travel links run late into the evening, allowing customers a leisurely 15-minute walk to their connecting train from site. Just over an hour on the train from London, this really is an easy evening out, in the most beautiful setting, seeing world-class acts.”

The concert forms part of a series of shows being hosted this summer at Warwick Castle.

The series starts on 18th July with the Music of Hans Zimmer vs John Williams, then McFly with special guests The Hoosiers and Elvana play the following evening (19th July).

On 20th July it’s the Ministry of Sound Classical plus Sigma and Freemasons and then the finale with Gallagher, Marr and Coxon.

The spokesperson added: “We have seen a wave of excitement for each of the events we have coming to Warwick Castle Live this summer but none more so than to see three absolute guitar icons, Noel Gallagher, Johnny Marr and Graham Coxon, who take to the stage for one night only. No other festival bill this summer will offer three guitar kings playing on castle grounds.”
