Ska legend appears at university's 50th

CHOCOLATE-POWERED racing cars, creativity and curry will be on the menu when the University of Warwick celebrates its 50th birthday this weekend.

The university kicked off Festival of the Imagination yesterday (Friday) and continues today, Saturday. Taking place at its central campus, three miles from Coventry city centre, it will be the centrepiece of its anniversary celebrations. A full programme of events that are open to the public focusing around the central theme Imagining the Future will be staged to highlight the work conducted at Warwick.

There will be amazing science (thus the chocolate car business), cookery demonstrations from celebrity chefs, talks galore, including polar explorer Mark Wood talking about his adventures, and local legend Pauline Black discussing the impact of ska on the area (tonight at the Warwick Arts Centre cinema at 8.15pm, after a screening of the 1982 BBC Play for Today filmThree Minute Heroes, named after The Selecter song, about teenage life in Coventry at the beginning of the 1980s.).
