RSC announce bumper 2016 season

The Royal Shakespeare Company has today announced its Spring/Summer 2016 season, which marks 400 years since the death of Shakespeare.

The dynamic season includes a black Hamlet; Cymbeline, Shakespeare’s late romance; a nationwide tour of A Midsummer Night’s Dream: A Play for the Nation, which includes local am-dram actors; a new adaption of Don Quixote, with David Threlfall as Don Quixote and Rufus Hound as Sancho Panza; plus Jonson’s The Alchemist and Marlowe’s Dr Faustus.

David Tennant will host a live broadcast live from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on BBC2, celebrating Shakespeare’s legacy across all the arts, in a unique collaboration between the RSC and the BBC. At the moment the programme has the working title The Shakespeare Show.

April sees the reopening of The Other Place (the RSC’s studio theatre returns with a new café and a new Page to Stage Tour) and the Swan Wing, which has been majorly restored.

Shakespeare’s Birthday celebrations go ahead on 23rd April 2016 with a day of free outdoor events, including a breath-taking show by acrobatic company, Mimbre, inspired by Shakespeare’s stories, and firework display.
