Perform at the RSC!

THE Royal Shakespeare Company is inviting Stratford residents to perform on its Swan Theatre stage on Sunday, 7th October from 11am to 4pm as part of the RSC’s all-day ‘open mic’ event.

People can apply to perform in slots of up to ten minutes. All artforms are welcome, including theatre, comedy, poetry or music. Those chosen will have the opportunity to take part in a voice workshop and warm up session in the RSC rehearsal room before the performance.

The one-off event is part of the national programme of Fun Palaces events, a campaign promoting community at the heart of culture and culture at the heart of community, with an annual weekend of action created by, for and with local people. Fun Palaces was the idea of theatre maker Joan Littlewood, and although it wasn’t realised in her lifetime, the movement that exists now has grown from her vision.

In the year the new play about her life, Miss Littlewood, premiered in the Swan Theatre, the RSC wanted to celebrate by doing something that exemplifies what Fun Palaces is all about and what it meant to Joan and the future of theatre making.
