The Reith Lectures is a series of annual radio lectures given by leading figures of the day, commissioned by the BBC, and broadcast on BBC Radio Four and the BBC World Service.

Hilary is delivering five lectures, entitled Resurrection: The Art And Craft, which will focus on history’s hold on the imagination, with each broadcast from 13th June. Each lecture is delivered in front of a live audience, with the others being in Manchester, London, Exeter, and Antwerp in Belgium. Sue Lawley hosts the event.

Tickets for the lecture are allocated by ballot, and to apply for the Stratford event see www.bbc.co.uk/showsandtours/shows

The Reith Lectures were inaugurated in 1948 by the BBC to mark the historic contribution made to public service broadcasting by Sir John (later Lord) Reith, the corporation’s first director-general.

The very first lecturer was the philosopher, Bertrand Russell whose subject was Authority and the Individual.
