Last chance to see Stratford Photo Group exhibition

The Stratford Photo Group’s Annual Exhibition has opened at The PlayHouse (formerly the ArtsHouse), and is on until Saturday (15th September).

There are around 100 prints which show off the group’s impressive skills. When Herald arts popped in we were very taken by the beauty and the humour of the high quality photographs on display.

There are stunning nature shots of birds in flight and lions in the wild; painterly views of Compton Verney and inside Worcester Cathedral; and, further afield, the Taj Mahal at sunset and the Northern Lights are imaginatively captured. People also feature, with some truly stunning portraits, such as a snake charmer in Rajastan, steam-age gents, a rasta and a Sri Lankan bride — all life is featured in the exhibition… and even death too. The image of ‘Doorway to Eternity’ depicting a gravestone juxtaposed by a similarly shaped doorway in the background manages to be both haunting and humorous.

The group’s members range from beginners to advanced photographers (but no professional photographers) and the artworks on display feature two recent Royal Photographic Society Licentiate panels of ten images for which members Jill Dyson-Orme and Cliff Armstrong have been awarded an LRPS Distinction. We heartily recommend popping in during the PlayHouse opening hours.
