Grab your dancing shoes and cut loose at Stratford Musical Theatre’s new production

Footloose, Stratford Playhouse
GRAB your dancing shoes and prepare to cut loose. The electrifying Stratford Musical Theatre’s production of Footloose, directed by the talented Judi Walton, has burst onto the stage at Stratford Playhouse and it is an absolute hoot.
With its dynamic choreography by Anya Brown and Kath Waters and top-notch musical direction from Gary Lewis and his live band, this show has got it all.
From the moment Daniel Denton-Lewis steps onto the stage as Ren McCormack, audiences are drawn into a whirlwind of energy and charisma. Ren’s journey from Chicago to the conservative town of Bomont is not just a tale of teenage rebellion, it’s wrapped in the infectious mix of nostalgia and modern flair punctuated by the hit songs we all know and love. Daniel’s rendition of the iconic title number Footloose is nothing short of exhilarating, setting the theatre ablaze with excitement.
Bex Lou Walton, who plays Ariel Moore, captures the essence of teenage angst and desire, delivering a performance that truly resonates. Her strong vocal performance of Holding Out for a Hero is a standout moment, as she yearns for something more in her life. You can almost feel the yearning of every girl who has ever wished for a dashing hero to swoop in and save the day. The chemistry between Bex and Daniel is palpable, making every scene they share electric.
Of course, let’s not forget the cheerfully cheeky tunes that get everyone tapping their feet. Let’s Hear It for the Boy, performed brilliantly by the ensemble and featuring a hilarious turn by Bradley Chappell as the lovable Willard Hewitt, raises the roof with its catchy beat and joyous lyrics. The outstanding choreography allows the cast to shine, showcasing their talent through lively dances that are impossible not to enjoy.
Equally commendable are the performances of Kim Arnold as Vi Moore and Chris McCoy as Rev Shaw Moore, whose tender scenes and vocals provide a well-balanced emotional depth to the story.
Karen Walsh as Ethel McCormack brings her character to life with a heartwarming and humorous touch, making her an audience favourite. Meanwhile, Katie Merrygold as Rusty injects her scenes with a playful energy that keeps spirits high.
Running until 9th November, this vibrant production of Footloose is a must-see. For tickets, https://tinyurl.com/3vcr89me.
