It’s 1969 and a woman looks back on life in London. From the Boer War to the Summer of Love, Flo Smith, daughter, sister, wife, mother, widow and grandmother recalls with horror, humour, tears and joy those turbulent times at home, and, in the world beyond her front door… So goes the one-woman play Flo Smith – Now and Then, which comes to the Bear Pit Theatre, Stratford, on Sunday, 16th September.

As reported about, and raved about, previously in the Herald when Flo visited earlier this year, this is a compelling and moving insight into the life of Flo Smith, an ‘every woman’ character wonderfully played by well-known actress Ursula Mohan. The play was written by local actor Christopher Saul (currently in the RSC’s Imperium trilogy) about his paternal grandmother, who he recorded telling her life story in the 1960s as a project for drama school… All these years later he brings her back to share her story, wit and wisdom. A must-see. Tickets are £12 (£6 under 18s) available from the RSC book office on 01789 403416 or via www.thebearpit.org.uk
