Games and Thrones: Round two of bloody play

PLAYBOX’S acclaimed reworking of Shakespeare’s Henry Vl plays moves to St Mary’s Church in Warwick for more performances following a hugely-successful run at the Dream Factory Theatre, Warwick.

The adaptation, reworked by Playbox director Stewart McGill, is called Games and Thrones — a cheeky reference to the cult TV show, Game of Thrones.

A cast of 34 young actors — aged 12 to 19 — play some 80 characters, often being bumped off, only to rapidly reappear in another guise, usually to be swiftly butchered all over again.

Performances run from today, Thursday, until Saturday, at The Collegiate Church of St Mary, Old Square, Warwick, from 7pm. Tickets are £20, concessions £12, from 01926 419555 or www.playboxtheatre.com

Richard Earl of Warwick ‘The Kingmaker’, who features prominently in the Henry VI plays, has his family chapel in this church, so adding a further frisson to this already atmospheric production. Maybe the Earl’s family members buried in the chapel will be spinning in their centuries old tombs as they see their history acted out so close by in modern dress — and with the famous Earl played by a female!
