A fascinating talk entitled Elizabeth I: Her Privy Council, the Earl of Essex and Ireland takes place at the Shakespeare Centre this Wednesday at 5pm.
The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust has recently acquired a paper of Queen Elizabeth I's Privy Council, signed by Earl of Essex, Sir Robert Cecil, Lord Hunsden (Lord Chamberlain and patron of Shakespeare's company), Lord Howard of Effingham and Earl of Nottingham, the Archbishop of Canterbury and others. It concerns the cost of equipping soldiers levied to fight in Ireland (1598-1599). Join the SBT experts as they find out more about what the document reveals and its Shakespearian connections.
The talk will be led by Amy Hurst (Collections Archivist) and Professor Sir Stanley Wells.
