David Tennant talks Stratford at charity film premiere
SEVERAL hundred people braved the cold on Saturday night to see the stars of the new Stratford-based film, You, Me & Him, including Dr Who and RSC actor David Tennant, on the red carpet at its charity premiere.
The cast were joined by a host of famous faces including television presenter, Nick Owen, and celebrity chef, Ainsley Harriet, at Cineworld on Birmingham's Broad Street.
The charity screening was a fundraiser for Baby Lifeline, a national charity supporting the care of pregnant women and new born babies.
Mr Tennant, the tenth Dr, and Peter Davison, the fifth incumbent of the TARDIS, took the time to stop and sign autographs and pose for selfies up and down the red carpet with fans.
Inside the cinema, comedian and actress, Arabella Weir, hosted a Q&A with Mr Tennant, his wife and producer for the film, Georgia Tennant, writer/director, Daisy Aitkens, and actress, Faye Marsay.
Mr Tennant, who was asked his favourite memory of Stratford, said: “I’ve loved Stratford for so many years because I’ve worked the RSC. We’ve had very many happy times there so to get to make a film there was a familiar, yet new experience.
“It’s a great location. It’s so beautiful to look at and it’s also got such heart and is such a unique place."
Before the film started, an intro played telling viewers about Baby Lifeline, the official charity partner of the new film.
The charity hopes to boost the funds of its £5 million Monitoring for Mums Appeal, where hospitals across the country submit wish lists for mother and baby monitoring equipment that they need for their maternity and neonatal units.
Proceeds from the sale of wristbands and pin badges on the night will also go to the appeal.
The film - which opens at UK cinemas 12th April - tells the story of a lesbian couple at different points in their lives: lawyer Olivia (Lucy Punch) is nearly 40 and wants to start a family but her younger partner Alex (Marsay) doesn't share her urgency.
What happens next involves recently-divorced neighbour John (Tennant).
TV and film regulars Sarah Parish, Sally Phillips and Gemma Jones are also amongst the cast.
The Herald's Mark Williamson and Matt Elofson were also at the premiere.
Matt said of the film: "The film was funny, entertaining, modern and well written too. It also had many recognisable places from in and around Stratford as expected, it was fun trying to spot those places."
