THE much-anticipated Don Quixote has opened at the Swan Theatre and runs until the end of May.

Cervantes’ comic novel is widely regarded as one of the foundation stones of modern fiction and often makes it onto lists of the greatest works of fiction ever published.

It is newly adapted for the stage by James Fenton (The Orphan of Zhao, 2012) and directed by Angus Jackson (Oppenheimer, 2014) to mark the 400th anniversary of Cervantes’ death. David Threlfall (Shameless, Channel 4) will play Don Quixote in his first role at the RSC since the highly-acclaimed Nicholas Nickleby in 1980/81.

Rufus Hound, whose recent work includes West End runs of One Man, Two Guvnors and Trevor Nunn’s War of the Roses, makes his RSC debut as Sancho Panza.
