Funds raised contribute towards not only the entire education and care of all the touring children, but also to the continued development and support of the Music for Life programmes that help some of the continent’s most needy children, providing them with better opportunities and helping shape a brighter future for Africa.

The choir visiting Stratford this year is comprised of nine girls and nine boys, all aged seven to 11, accompanied by their chaperones. Many have lost one or both of their parents to poverty or disease.

Music for Life, the official fundraising charity of the African Children’s Choir, works in seven African countries, and has educated over 52,000 children, as well as having an impact on the lives of over 100,000 people through relief and development programmes during its 30-year history.

There have been over 40 different choirs since 1984. In2Cultures, a local creative arts company, are the driving force behind the choir’s visit.

Director, Liz Rose, said: “I have supported the choir for many years, so it was a dream fulfilled to see them sing in Stratford with our local children.”

She added: “In January 2015, eight schools took part in the project. They got to rehearse and have lunch with the choir, and then come back in the evening to perform in front of an audience of dignitaries, parents and the community. It was a wonderful emotional evening.

“The concerts reflect the energy, beauty, dignity and unlimited ability of these incredible children through song, music and dance. The performances are both uplifting and humbling, and are an opportunity to experience the vitality of the youth from this challenged continent.

“It is an honour to host them once again in January 2016.”

Fourteen local schools will be involved and there are three concerts: Stratford ArtsHouse on Friday, 15th January, The Croft School on Saturday, 16th January, and All Saints’ Parish Church, Leamington, on Monday, 18th January.

Liz added: “Last January, we raised over £6,500 for the choir charity and I want to do even better this time.”

Tickets for all three concerts are £7. Tickets for the ArtsHouse one are on sale from the box office on 01789 207100, or from In2Cultures on 01789 299594 for the other two venues.
