Ryan Worthington hits maiden Shipston CC century
RYAN Worthington recorded his first club century to help Shipston to a 113-run success over Leek Wootton in the Cotswold Hills League Premier Division.
Shipston won the toss and took no time deciding to have a bat, and after an initial set back, losing Matt Corby for eight, they set about recording an impressive 284-4.
Julian Morris (68) and Worthington (107 not out) led the way by providing a solid foundation for the latter overs, the pair putting on on a brilliant 147-run partnership for the second wicket.
This allowed Marcus Ireland (12), Jack Murphy (20) and Daniel Knight (30no) to come in and play freely to take the game away from the visitors, who found it hard to restrict their opponents in the latter overs.
However, the real plaudits must go to Worthington who played a chanceless innings to help guide his side to their final total, bringing up his first league century for Shipston in the process.
Alexander Garman (2-62) was the pick of the Leek Wootton bowlers.
In reply Leek Wootton recovered from losing two wickets in the first over to 96-4 after just 15 overs.
Captain Sandeep Murthy (66) led the way, however, despite keeping up with the required rate for most of the innings, the loss of regular wickets prevented the visitors from getting close to their target as they ended 171 all out in the 30th over.
Alan Horsford (4-51) was the most effective Shipston bowler with healthy contributions from Ireland (2-35) and David Pyne (2-43).
Aasheesh Talwar (35) and Venkat Sarma (22no) also impressed with the bat for Wootton.
Shipston complete the season with a trip to title-chasing Wellesbourne on Saturday (1.30pm start).
