Williams warms up for Euro bid with a hat-trick of medals
PAULA Williams bagged two golds and one bronze at last weekend’s British Masters’ Indoor Championsips at Lee Valley.
With the European Masters’ Championships taking place in Madrid this weekend, the Stratford AC ace appears to have timed her peak to perfection.
In the 60m hurdles, her favourite event, she won easily in 9.51 seconds, a new personal best, over three-tenths better than her PB at the start of this season. She then switched straight to the shot, which she won with 10.31 metres, just two centimetres below her PB.
After a short break, she then had a very close race in the 60m, crossing the line in 8.25 seconds, another new PB and nearly three-tenths better than her PB at the start of season.
Her Stratford AC team-mates, Phil Brennan and Peter Coote, were also in action at Lee Valley. Brennan, also getting ready for the trip to Madrid, had a tough race in the 1500m, taking the silver medal in a new club record time for his age group.
Coote was pleased with a new PB in the 60 metres, but less pleased by his performances in the discus and javelin, finishing just outside the medals in fourth place in both.
