Will Grocott confirms he wants to stay at Stratford Town

MIDFIELDER Will Grocott has spoken of his desire to remain at Stratford Town, despite being dropped for Saturday’s FA Cup defeat against Alvechurch.

A frustrated Grocott was forced to watch from the sidelines as Town bowed out of the competition at the first hurdle.

His weekend exclusion led to speculation that he could leave the club, but the 26-year-old says he is more than happy to stay at Town, despite interest from elsewhere.

When quizzed on his future, Grocott, insisted: “I’m definitely staying. I’ve been at Stratford ages and I never want to leave.

“There have been approaches for me, but I am 100 per cent committed to the club.

“While I was naturally frustrated to not play on Saturday, I thought the best bet would be to stick with it, work hard and help the club grind out some results.”

A set-piece specialist, Grocott has been a revelation since Carl Adams brought him to Town in June 2016.

He has arguably been the club’s most consistent player over the past two seasons, which led him to scooping four player of the year awards at the end of the 2016/17 campaign.

One player who is on the move is striker Nabil Shariff, who has ended his short spell at Stratford after agreeing to return to former club St Neots.

Shariff played four times this season, scoring once from the spot to earn Town a point in a 1-1 draw at Banbury United last month.
