Wellesbourne forced to settle for second after late drama
WELLESBOURNE Ladies claimed runners-up spot in the second North East Midlands Ladies touch rugby tournament of the season last Sunday.
Having won the previous tournament at Pinley, Bourne arrived in confident mood and they got off to a winning start as Natasha Rose scored the only try of the game against hosts Camp Hill.
Bourne followed it up with a 3-0 win over Old Laurentrians, thanks to tries from Kara Boaj and Claire Davis (2).
The third match saw Bourne beat local rivals Stratford 3-1 with scores from Rose (2) and Davis.
A win over Rugby St Andrews (4-0) put Bourne into the final against Redditch. It was a closely-fought contest, that was poised at 2-2 going into the final minute, with Bourne's scores coming courtesy of Rose and Davis.
A moment of magic then saw Redditch break through Bourne's defence to score the winner.
Redditch were awarded the title on points difference, with Bourne finishing as runners-up.
