DANNY Janes secured his first Midland League victory in charge of Alcester Town thanks a 2-0 success against Coventrians at Stratford Road on Saturday.

Steve Nurse and Matt Layton both struck in the first half to ensure Town bounced back from their opening-day defeat to NKF Burbage.

"I thought the professionalism of the performance in the second half was really pleasing," said Janes.

"We knew it was going to be tough and the players worked together to ensure we didn't let the opposition back into the game."

FC Stratford made it two wins from two with a comfortable 4-1 triumph at Boldmere Sports & Social Falcons.

Ben Hill, Ryan Sturridge and Ashley Wilkes were all on target for Dave Poulson's side.

Shipston Excelsior went down 2-0 at new boys NKF Burbage, who maintained their 100 per cent start to the new campaign.

In Midland League Division One, Martin Slevin scored a late penalty as Racing Club Warwick drew 2-2 in a bad-tempered affair with Cadbury Athletic.

Studley got their season up and running as goals from Connoll Farrell (2) and Joseph Knight saw them claim a 3-2 win over Nuneaton Griff at The Beehive.

In Midland League Division Two, Earlswood Town left it late before striking twice in the last four minutes to beat Continental Star 2-0.

Mark O'Donnell's penalty put Earls ahead and Nicholas Cox made sure of the points with a second in added time.
