MARTIN Tomes scored twice as Shipston Excelsior edged out Inkberrow in a seven-goal thriller to maintain their promotion challenge in the Midland League Division Three.

Tomes’ double plus strikes from Lewis Fathers and Joe Godson secured a 4-3 win at Sands Lane to keep Steve Hedderman’s side in second place behind runaway leaders NKF Burbage.

Inkberrow’s scorers were Sean Parrish (2) and Daniel Read.

Alcester Town led at home to Barton United but had to settle for a frustraing point in a 1-1 draw.

Danny Janes’ hosts went in front through Thomas Higgins but Barton equalised in the final minute through Ryan Ware’s unstoppable shot.

Revitalised Earlswood Town extended their unbeaten run to five games in Division Two with a 2-0 home win against Smithswood Firs.

Southam United’s Premier Division at home to Pershore Town was abandoned after 72 minutes because of fog at Banbury Road.

The game had begun with an impeccably observed minute's silence before the match in honour of former coach Barry Rumble but it was brought to a halt s mist and fog engulfed the pitch.

Pershore led 4-0 at the time, with Jamie Clarke and former Saints striker Louis Bridges giving the visitors a 2-0 lead after 18 minutes. They both added a second goal after the break.
