We can't feel sorry for ourselves, insists Shipston boss Hedderman

STEVE Hedderman has told Shipston Excelsior they cannot afford to feel sorry for themselves as they look for their first win of the Midland League Division Three season this weekend.

The Shipston manager is ready to make changes to the side to spark a change in fortune as they welcome Central Ajax to London Road on Saturday.

He feels their performances have deserved better but a surprise 4-1 Birmingham Saturday Vase exit at Birmingham University Medics last Saturday was a familiar tale. They wasted chances and then got punished for their mistakes.

A goal from Wes Mack on his debut had pulled the score back to 2-1 before the Medics bagged their third before half-time and then killed any hopes with a fourth in the final moments.

“It wasn’t a 4-1 defeat – we totally dominated the game for the majority of the time but we lost concentration for a ten-minute spell and conceded two soft goals,” said Hedderman. “It’s happened too often.

“We’ve got to show a bit of character and bit more belief. Confidence suffers when you’re not winning games. It’s hard when things aren’t going your way but we’ve got to stop feeling sorry for ourselves.”
