VIDEO: Mat Jackson looking for more success at Knockhill

HENLEY racer Mat Jackson is determined to carry the winning momentum of a fortnight ago into this week’s round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Knockhill.

Jackson celebrated his Motorbase Performance team’s 300th race in the nation’s top racing series with his third win of the season at Snetterton.

With an opening-race podium as well, it meant an emphatic 74-point lead at the top of the independent teams standings but also left Jackson just 33 points behind leader Rob Collard in the overall drivers’ standings.

Jackson wants to keep closing the gap in his #7 Ford Focus ST but Knockhill will provide another test.

With space at a premium on the short, twisty circuit, the Scottish track is a notoriously difficult track to overtake on and Jackson and Motorbase team-mate Andrew Jordan will look for a strong qualifying performance to set up a positive chance of success in rounds 19, 20 and 21 on Sunday.

“We’re in a good place heading into this weekend in Knockhill,” said Jackson.

“We enjoyed some good results there last year and on the back of a strong performance at Snetterton we’ve shown that the car is in the window.

“It’s great to have such a gap leading the Teams Independent Championship but our eyes are on the main prize.”

Team manager Olly Collins says the team will be taking nothing for granted in Fife.

“Knockhill always throws up some unique challenges as a circuit so we expect another close and frantic weekend with strong competition,” said Collins.

“The BTCC has so far delivered another nail-biting season for us all and the championship is still wide open. We’re in a really strong position heading to Scotland but we also know a lot can happen over the course of a race weekend."
