Town show resolve as they claim point at Hungerford
Although Town had the first real chance when Michael McGrath’s right-wing corner fell to Marcel Simpson at the far post, only for the big defender to poke it straight at goalkeeper Paul Strudley.
Town got more and more into the game as the half wore on with Richard Gregory twice going close, but they had a scare a minute before the break when Nat Jarvis’ shot from the left clipped the top of the bar on its way behind.
Hungerford went close ten minutes into the second half when James Clark launched a free-kick from the left which was met by Jarvis with a firm header which was tipped over by Andy Kemp.
Hungerford applied plenty of pressure, but Town defended resolutely and Hungerford’s main threat came from Rusby’s throws aimed at Jarvis.
And Town almost stole it right at the end when McGrath’s low drive fizzed inches wide.
Carl Adams' post-match comment was that his side “played like men tonight” and he was right.
The 0-0 draw moves Town up to 12th in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division ahead of Saturday's home game against Dorchester Town.
