STRATFORD Town manager Carl Adams says he's raring to go for the season ahead following a near-perfect pre-season campaign.

Town scored 25 times in six friendly matches, suffering just one defeat, at Bromsgrove Sporting last Saturday.

It leaves them in superb shape ahead of this Saturday’s curtain-raiser at St Ives, and Adams is keen to ensure their good pre-season work does not go to waste.

“It’s been a very successful pre-season for us and we can’t wait to get started now,” he said.

“Expectations have gone up because of our pre-season, but we are still third favourites to be relegated with the bookmakers.

“We are looking forward to proving them wrong. The league has got tougher this year, but the signs are there that we can have a good season.”

Town are set for a tough August where they will face four of last season’s top six in their opening seven games, plus relegated team Basingstoke.

First up though is a clash with newly-promoted St Ives, who won promotion via last season’s Southern League Division One play-offs.

Town will be without the unavailable Kieren Westwood for the trip to Cambridgeshire, but otherwise Adams has a full squad to choose from for the Westwood Road opener.
