Teammates battle it out as series reaches its climax

TEAMMATES Nick Popham and Kirby Bennett were involved in a race to the line on their way to age group wins at the final round of the Midland Friday Night Mountain Bike series held at Delapre Abbey in Northamptonshire.

The Team Enable MI Racing pair came home fifth and sixth with Popham winning the sprint to the line on his way to take the 50+ category and Bennett taking the 60+ honours.

Popham also sealed victory in the overall series with Lindsay Newman winning the Lady Veterans and Ryan Henry clinching the 40+ series. Bennett finished runner-up in the over 60s despite not riding in all the events.

Simon Law continued his excellent form by being fastest in the Hinckley Evening 10-mile Time Trial with a time of 21 mins 32 secs and teammate Oliver Searle recorded the amazing time of 22-09 riding a standard road bike.

The winners of last year’s Chronos RT 2-up Time Trial near Cambourne – Andy Jackson and Andy Oliver – finished a brilliant second place in this year’s event. Very strong winds made it a tough first few miles but they recorded a course best of 21 mins 44 secs.
