Team fill the podium at two league meetings
RIDERS from the Stratford-based Team Enable MI Racing filled the podium at two cyclocross events.
On Sunday, the seventh round of the West Midlands Cyclocross League was staged at Baggeridge Country Park in Dudley around a technical and, due to the impact of Storm Babet, muddy course. But this proved perfect for the bike handling skills of Nick Whitley who finished a minute clear of Nick Popham who was a further minute ahead of teammate of Darren Atkins. The fourth-placed rider was another three minutes back, such was the ability of the Team Enable riders.
In the same 50+ age category, Alan Buxey had his best result of the season, finishing in 41st place overall and in the 40-49 age category, Colin Miller finished fourth.
In the senior race, Tom Bradley finished 12th while in the women’s race, Lynsey Whitley finished sixth in the 40-49 age category.
The previous week saw riders tackle the sixth round raced around a dry and fast University of Worcester campus near Holt. This time Darren Atkins took his first win of the season in the veteran 50+ age category ahead of Popham and Whitley. Buxey finished 71st and Andy Jackson 76th of the 105 starters.
In the senior male category, Bradley was 15th place and Miller was second in the veteran 40-49 age category, only losing the back wheel of the winner on the final lap.
In the women’s race, Lynsey Whitley finished 21st overall and seventh place in the 40-49 age group category.
The second round of the Cyclocross National Trophy was held in North Yorkshire and Nick Whitley finished third on a very muddy and difficult course. There was also an excellent ride from Nick Popham to finish sixth having started from 45th on the grid.
