Stratford Town Youth get season off to perfect start
STRATFORD Town Youth got their Midland Floodlit Youth League Premier Division South season off to the perfect start with a 2-1 win at newly-promoted Evesham United on Monday night, writes Bryan Hale.
With only three players available from last season’s League Cup winning side due to holidays and injuries, it was a young looking starting line-up which included six 16-year-olds.
After understandably taking time to settle, they began to take control from halfway through the first half with James Pomeroy and Rob Sone causing the Evesham defence plenty of problems down both flanks.
And shortly before half-time, Town took the lead when Tommy Harrington’s shot was too much for the Evesham keeper who could only parry it into the net.
Town continued to boss the game after the break and doubled their lead when Carwardine crossed to fellow substitute Jack Ballinger who made it 2-0 with a crisp finish.
With Town making further substitutions Evesham came mote into the game late on and pulled one back with a header from a corner but Town held on grittily to clinch the win.
