Stratford Athletic Club win four prizes at Sports Awards




Rory Dwyer, the 18-year-old high jumper and hurdler, won the Stratford Herald Senior Sports Person of the Year.

Warwickshire cross country champion Agnes McTighe was named The Clubhouse Junior Sports Person of the Year, while Stratford AC Paul Hawkins won Rybrook Mini Stratford Coach or PE Teacher of the Year.

The club’s junior section also picked up the NFU Mutual Community Sport Award.

Stratford RFC won the hotly-contested Stratford Bike Hire Senior Team of the Year, pipping Stratford Town Football Club and Stratford Cricket Club to the prize.

Mat Pickering won the VASA Volunteer of the Year Award thanks to his tireless work at Stratford-upon-Avon & District Boxing Academy, and Nicole Brain won the Fit for Sport Alternative Sport Award for her efforts in canoe polo.

Stratford-upon-Avon School’s under-16 girls football team claimed the Everyone Active Junior Team of the Year thanks to a superb 2015.

The Special Recognition for Sport in Schools Award went to the late Jonathan ‘Jo’ Walker for his inspirational role as sports coach at Kineton Primary School.

A memorable night was rounded off with Kineton Cricket Club’s Paul Richardson winning the Stratford Manor Q Hotels Service to Sport Award.
