Stratford AC's Brennan wins another gold at Trentham 10k

EVERGREEN Phil Brennan bagged another gold medal at the Trentham 10k race on Sunday.

The race starts in the village of Tittensor and is a one-lap hilly course. Despite the hills, the course is a scenic one and always proves popular.

This year, the race hosted the British Masters 10km Championship and it was this that attracted Stratford AC international Brennan to enter.

Brennan comfortably finished first in his age category, some seven minutes ahead of his closest rival.

In fact it was double gold, as he won not only the British Masters Athletics Federation gold, but also the Midland Masters Athletic Club gold.

As well as his double gold, he finished with a finisher’s medal, a race category trophy and £10 in prize money. His time was 54.46.

“It was nearly a fell race with a 300ft climb at the second kilometre,” said Brennan. “After that, it was extremely hilly, in a temperature of 28°C and with no shade. Despite all that, it was a well-organised and scenic race.”

A total of 315 competitors completed the race, which was won by Nick Jones in a time of 34.10. The first woman to finish, in 35th place and a time of 39.55, was Kelly Edwards.
