It was impressive start for the Stratford AC who are determined to better last season’s highest-ever placing of fifth overall in the competitive five-round series.

Under head coach Paul Hawkins’s leadership, the cross country team has developed year on year and with experienced athletes continuing to improve, and younger athletes excited to start competing for the first time, the journey is set to continue with aspirations of finishing in an even higher place this season.

After the opening round Stratford lie third overall, with a total of 5,595 points.

In the age categories, the U17s women ended the Northampton round in eighth overall and the U17s men fifth.

The U11s boys are third and the girls seventh and the boys U15s occupy seventh with the girls’ team fifth.

In the U13s, the girls were sixth with room for improvement over the winter while the boys are fifth, only 13 points behind the third-placed team.

The second fixture is at Wolverhampton in November.
