Stratford AC duo impress at championships




A renowned slow starter, Chandler made a good start and it should help her confidence for future races.

For Hibberd, it was more of a step into unfamiliar terrority, but she was very pleased with her 419th position (31.28), which augurs well for her continued transition into the senior ranks.

Meanwhile, John Butler represented Stratford AC in the fourth race of the Centurions Grand Prix.

The weather conditions were wet and windy, with a huge puddle to swim through.

Butler braved the elements and finished the course in an impressive time of 49.28, claiming 125th place out of 132 runners.

The winner of the race was Holmfirth Harriers’ Peter Brookes in a time of 26.02, while the first lady to finish was Birchfield Harriers’ Sarah Conway in 33.10.

Elsewhere, Stratford AC stalwart Kate Wright claimed glory in the Sarasota Music Half Marathon race on Sunday.

Tagging on a race to the end of her recent holiday, Wright was in fine form as she took first place female in a time of 1.25.37.

Wright was sixth overall, while the race winner, Warren Gradjalez (1.15.01), was a mere 35 years younger than Wright.
