Stewart and Foster help extends Shottery's lead at top of table

SHOTTERY took full advantage of inactivity for their rivals by extending their lead at the top of Stratford Table Tennis League Division One, reports Peter Florence.

They travelled to Ashorne, where Gary Stewart and Stephen Foster each recorded two wins without the loss of a set.

However, it wasn’t a totally unblemished performance as the pair conceded a single end in the doubles with the match finishing 15-1.

Newly-promoted Stratford Montagues now occupy second place after overcoming Henley 11-7.

Paul Vu and Archie Mathers each chalked up a victory, although Mathers was particularly unlucky not to achieve further success. He narrowly lost out 12-10 in the decider to Barry Quirke who notched a brace for the Villagers.

With the fixture evenly poised, Montagues clinched the all-important doubles to give themselves a final result of 11-7 .

In Division Two, Stratford Capulets made the perfect start against Stratford Eagles when Robert Tkaczyk defeated Piotr Penczkowski over three keenly fought sets. However, that was all Capulets were able to muster as Eagles then took control of the contest.

Kevin Taylor secured his two games, and Penczkowski earned a further three points before the pair added the doubles to run out 12-4 winners.

Henry Lu produced a brace for FISSC when they entertained Stratford Othellos. Terry Kilkenny and Seth Warner levelled the contest by chalking up wins for the visitors.

The outcome of the match was decided when Lu and debutant Malcolm McCulloch clinched the concluding doubles enabling the Farmers to go home with a 10-8 victory.
