Start of cricket season sees bobble hats in use as cold weather hits games
MARK Richardson was in top form to give Cookhill a confidence-boosting win against Ombersley 3rds.
The sides’ planned Worcestershire League clash at Ombersley was cancelled but they instead played a friendly at Cookhill and the hosts were convincing nine-wicket winners.
Richardson led the way with remarkable bowling figures of seven wickets for 19 runs as Ombersley were skittled for 60 all out in 22.4 overs. Phil Smith snapped up two wickets for five runs.
Cookhill wasted little time in getting to their target, scoring 61-1, with Pete Alexander hitting 36 not out and Zach Smith 20 not out.
Despite also facing a freezing, rain-sodden day, Cookhill 2nds travelled to Lapworth for another friendly but were beaten by 98 runs.
Lapworth scored 201-2 declared – Neil Shuttleworth took the two wickets – but Cookhill’s reply only reached 103 before they were dismissed. Kieran Kite scored 42 not out.
