Star striker being tracked by National league side
STRATFORD Town chairman Jed McCrory admits that the club is facing a battle to keep leading scorer Callum Ebanks after the 20-goal striker was targeted by a National League side.
But he confirmed that the majority of last season’s side had agreed to re-sign with the Bards as they look to improve on last season when they missed out of the Southern League Premier Central play-offs on goal difference.
McCrory said: “With regards to Callum, we have offered him a new contract but he has been in discussions with a side in the National League. If a big club comes in for him then we wouldn’t want to hold him back and we have always been positive in encouraging players to move on with their careers which is one of the reasons why players choose to come to Stratford Town.
“If he decides to go then we have had initial discussions with numerous players but it will all depend on what Callum decides to do.”
With Ebanks still aged under 24 and on contract, any club will have to pay a fee for his signature.
McCrory added: “We have been able to keep the majority of the players we wanted. We have retained keeper Callum Smith and the backfour of Dan Vann, Paul McCone, Chris Hussey and Luke Worley. In midfield we have agreed with Josh Hawker, Lewis Ison, Dan Lafferty and Lewis Wilson and we are still talking with Tom Solanke, Tyrell Hamilton.
“We are also going to bring back Jamie Molyneux, he is a real character and someone we missed around the club at the end of last season. His experience will be vital because we are quite a young squad.”
