Sporting weekend close to a total whiteout

THE big freeze wiped out virtually all the sport over the weekend with Studley’s MFL Premier match against Stone Old Alleynians on the club’s 3G pitch the only action.

Stratford Town had borrowed covers from Birmingham City but were still beaten by the weather, being forced to postpone their match with AFC Sudbury Town due to a frozen pitch.

It was the same story on the rugby and hockey fronts and Warwick Racecourse’s Classic Chase Day, its richest meeting of the season, was also abandoned.

Studley’s match was the only one played in the top two divisions of the MFL and it was a good afternoon for the Bees as they beat their Staffordshire opponents 3-0, a first win for boss Danny Brain after he took the reins at the start of last month.

Skipper Charlie Shaw handed them a half-time lead with teenager Nate Timbrell and Ash De Mulder adding to the tally after the break.

Stratford Town are hopeful that their match at home to St Ives Town tomorrow (Tuesday) in the Southern League Premier Central will go ahead and FC Stratford are due to head to Stonehouse Town for their Hellenic League Division One match.
