Southam suffer more cup woe
But they could take heart from the performance against Midland Premier Division high-fliers Stourport Swifts.
Swifts opened up brightly and Saints had to be sharp to deal with a dangerous low cross into the box from Jim Hanson. But they went behind in the 25th minute when a cross from the right was flicked on to Joe Phillips, whose bullet header gave keeper Nathan Carro no chance.
Despite the setback, Saints were putting up a better performance than in recent matches, although they had the crossbar to thank for not going further behind in the 33rd minute.
Carro then saved well low down in the 38th minute and a good cross from Charlie Cook almost set up a scoring chance for Saints as half-time approached.
Swifts again hit the woodwork early in the second half and Saints had their best chance when Paul Goonan was fouled and Tom O’Callaghan’s well-stuck free-kick was gathered by keeper Dominic Richards.
With ten minutes to go, O’Callaghan again went close with a shot that was blocked, but Saints couldn’t get the goal they needed to level the tie.
