SAM Weaving led the way for Stratford AC in the popular Sphinx AC Summer 5 race last week.

Nine club members took part, some of whom were looking to earn valuable points in this year’s Warwickshire Road Race League.

Weaving finished in 43rd place with a time of 30.52. Next was Pete Sugden (96th, 33.19), who was three minutes quicker than last year. Annie Cox (176th, 35.52) finished second in the U20 age category, just 39 seconds behind the category winner.

Cox was followed by Luke Watkins (320th, 41.38) and Ruth Calderbank (327th, 42.06), who was four seconds quicker than last year and, more impressively, won her age category by more than eight minutes.

The next three Stratford AC runners all showed considerable improvements on last year’s times.

Jan McLure (344th, 43.20) was almost two minutes quicker, Nic Reynolds (377th, 45.18) more than three minutes quicker and Pippa Abrams (407th, 47.30) improved by almost four minutes. Finally, Tash Watkins finished in 434th place with a time of 51.35.

The race was won by Andrew Slavery in 26.40. The first woman to finish was Eleanor Fowler in a time of 30.10.
