Romans beat the storm as Darragh hits fixtures

STORM Darragh was the only winner as football matches fell by the wayside on Saturday.

Alcester Town did manage to pick up three points on Friday evening thanks to a 3-2 win at Worcester United in the Herefordshire Premier League, Billy Duggins, Jake Wicketts and Tristan Roberts with the goals as the Romans returned to the top of the table.

A smattering of rugby games were played and it proved a good afternoon for Stratford as they beat Hereford 17-5 in Regional Two Midlands West.

The game had been scheduled for Hereford’s Wyeside ground but, with this unplayable, the match was switched to Pearcecroft where tries from Jack Young, Jake Lowe and Michael Dawes wrapped up the win.

Alcester were convincing 43-5 winners at home to Worcester in Counties One Midlands West (South). The game was abandoned just after an hour due to the worsening conditions but the result stands with the hosts picking up five points for their bonus point victory.

The games involving Southam and Claverdon were postponed in Counties Two Midlands West (East) while Harbury lost their contest at Aston Old Edwardians 29-5.

On the hockey front, there were 3-1 wins for both the men’s and women’s firsts - the former securing the honours at Loughborough Town while the women were at home to Market Harborough.
