Wellesbourne's Robin Harper lands men's doubles title at Yonex U19 Latvia International contest

WELLESBOURNE ace Robin Harper claimed his second international win of the year with Norfolk’s Harry Wakefield by taking the men’s doubles title at the Yonex U19 Latvia International tournament.

Alcester Grammar School student Harper, 17, and Wakefield, who had won a doubles title in the Faroe Islands in July, beat pairs from Latvia, Germany and Ukraine en route to the final at the Liepaja Olympic Centre.

Here, they came up against No. 1 seeds Estonia and prevailed in straight sets 21-17, 21-14.

“I’m really pleased with the win,” Harper told the Herald.

“Harry and I have worked hard with our coaches to get to this level.

“My school has also been supportive, which has meant I have been able to manage my studies and badminton."
