Rivals taught lesson in derby day defeat

STRATFORD’S rugby chief admits his side were “taught a valuable lesson“’” after suffering a 24-7 defeat at local rivals Shipston on Saturday.

Director of rugby Richard Pepperell added that his players “ailed to turn up’” for the derby clash at Mayo Road where the Rams avenged a 39-29 defeat earlier in the season.

He said: “Everyone’s blood was up a little bit more and the adrenaline was high but you have to learn from that and remain calm under pressure. There were times during the game when we didn’t do that. We have been taught a valuable lesson and need to come back stronger and look to have a good end to the season. We could probably get to fourth now but I don’t think we can get much higher than that.
