Racers' winning run comes to an end to top-of-table clash

FOOTBALL

RACING Club Warwick’s bid to topple leaders Atherstone Town and move to the summit of the Midland League Division One ended in disappointment.

The Racers’ run of nine league wins in a row was halted by the Adders’ 4-2 at Townsend Meadow in Saturday’s title challengers’ head-to-head.

The result leaves second-placed Racing Club four points behind Atherstone who have played two more games.

It was 1-1 at half-time, with Richard Powell giving the hosts the lead before Alex Naughton equalised on 35 minutes.

Ryan Quinn put the Adders ahead straight after the interval and Naughton made it 3-1.

Luke Cole reduced the deficit, but Racing’s hopes faltered when Charlie Bannister was sent off a minute from time and Joe Obi added a fourth with a last-minute penalty.

Littleton celebrated their first league win of the season - and in style.

Playing their 17th game, the Ton Boys took their first three points with a 5-0 hammering of Heath Hayes.

It takes Littleton off the bottom of the table, with Nuneaton Griff slipping below them.
