Promising teenager agrees 18-month Bards deal

PROMISING teenage striker Cyrus Bruce has signed an 18-month contract with Stratford Town after making just two substitute appearances for the Bards.

The fleet-footed frontman caught the eye while playing for United Counties League side Daventry Town and club chairman Jed McCrory has revealed there has already been interest from clubs higher up the non-league pyramid and even from the Football League.

In his column for the Herald, McCrory explained that Bruce’s arrival at the club was part of their ‘continued search for local talent’.

The 18-year-old made a late appearance off the bench in the 3-0 victory over St Ives Town and then played the second half of Stratford’s match at Spalding United on Saturday, going close to scoring in the final minutes.

“A number of clubs have been tracking Cyrus, both from the National League and from the Football League,” McCrory said. “He is a raw talent but has already shown glimpses of what he can do in the short time he has been with us.”

The Bards will be able to call on striker Callum Ebanks for Saturday’s home match with fellow Southern League Premier Central promotion chasers Halesowen Town after he missed the last two games due to a family bereavement.

But there are doubts over two other players after midfielder Ashley Sammons and defender Kevin Joshua picked up injuries at the weekend.
