Pozzi survives scare to reach 110m hurdles semi-finals in Rio
STRATFORD AC's Andrew Pozzi survived a scare to reach the Olympic 110m hurdles semi-finals in Rio.
Pozzi looked to be cruising until he clipped the eighth hurdle and, in his own words, "ploughed into the ninth hard" but in the end the former Alcester Grammar School student did well to stay on his feet and recover to cross the line in 13.50 seconds, second behind France's Dimitri Bascou.
Pozzi tweeted: "Phew! Sigh of relief after that one! Through to tomorrow's semis where I'll rectify today's mistakes. Loved being out there."
The race took place after a delay because of torrential rain in Rio and an extra 110m hurdles heat was arranged for competitors who did not qualify from the first two races, when the rain was at its heaviest.
The semi-finals are due to take place from 12.40am on Wednesday morning.
