Stratford Cycling Club hosted round six of the West Midlands youth circuit series

Stratford Cycling Club hosted round six of the West Midlands youth circuit series at Evesham.

There were 120 riders aged from six to 16 racing around a 1km purpose built cycle track.

Races lasted from 10 minutes for the youngest up to a gruelling one hour for the Under 16s.

The sun made an appearance early on but any thoughts of a day basking under blue skies and endless sunshine were soon dispelled as clouds appeared and the relentless wind made it tough going for the riders.

Tactics came into play as riders tried to shelter from the wind and the twisty nature of the circuit tested the riders' cornering skills to the full.

Thankfully, unlike in previous years, there were no high speed crashes and maybe the high winds made the riders a little more cautious as they battled for position.

Podiums on the day were shared between many clubs with Stratford riders Jorgie Gillett (U14 girls) and Scarlett Ford (U16 girls) winning their races and Nathan Edmunds coming second (U12 boys).

More importantly it was great to see 20 riders from Stratford pin on a number with some racing for the first time and everyone having fun.

The event was run by the club's amazing volunteers and was well received by riders, parents and commissaires alike.
